India Data Centre Footprint to Quadruple by 2030
India's data centre capacity is projected to reach 101 million square feet by 2030, driven by $300 billion in investment commitments and domestic data laws.
Anarock Capital projects that India's data centre footprint will quadruple to 101 million square feet by 2030, increasing from 27 million square feet recorded in the first half of 2026. This expansion is supported by over $300 billion in investment commitments and a capacity increase from 1.8 GW to over 6.7 GW.
Growth is driven by high cloud adoption and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act of 2023, which requires domestic data storage. While Mumbai and Chennai remain the dominant hubs, development is diversifying into Hyderabad, Delhi-NCR, and Bengaluru. Notable projects include a $15 billion investment by Google in Visakhapatnam and a 168-MW AI-enabled facility in Jamnagar developed by Reliance for Meta.
Other major expansions include NTT Data's plans for 400 MW in Hyderabad and 100 MW in Bengaluru, alongside the Lodha Group's plan to develop 1 GW of powered shell capacity in Palava, Dombivli. Similar capacity surges are occurring across Southeast Asia, specifically in Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia, as AI computing requirements increase and demand overflows from Singapore.
