Gold Prices Surge as Pakistani Rupee Remains Steady

Gold prices in Pakistan rose to Rs461,936 per tola on August 17 while the Pakistani rupee showed mixed trends against major international currencies.

Domestic gold prices in Pakistan surged on August 17, 2026, with 24-karat gold increasing by Rs2,000 per tola to reach Rs461,936. The price for 10 grams of gold rose to Rs396,035, and silver increased by Rs80 per tola to Rs7,029. This spike followed a $20 increase in international bullion rates, which reached $4,395 per ounce. This rally is part of a broader August trend where gold prices in Pakistan have climbed approximately 8% from the Rs426,000 range seen at the start of the month.

Market analysts attribute the international upward pressure to softer-than-expected US inflation data, which increased expectations that the Federal Reserve System may adopt a less aggressive interest rate policy.

Simultaneously, the Pakistani rupee exhibited mixed trends against major international and Gulf currencies. The US Dollar remained steady with a buying rate of 278.40 PKR and selling rates between 278.70 and 278.80 PKR. The Euro traded at 320.05 PKR for buying and 325.55 PKR for selling, while the British Pound Sterling was quoted at 374.89 PKR for buying and approximately 380.84 PKR for selling. Other rates included the UAE Dirham at 76.15/77.15 PKR and the Saudi Riyal at 74.05/74.70 PKR, with the Kuwaiti Dinar remaining the highest-valued currency with buying rates up to 885.59 PKR.
