Greens for Palestine Push Zionism Motion at Party Conference

Greens for Palestine urged supporters to join the Green Party to pass a motion declaring Zionism as racism at the party's annual conference in Brighton.

The group Greens for Palestine has encouraged supporters to join the Green Party to ensure the adoption of a motion declaring Zionism is racism at the party's annual conference in Brighton. If passed, the motion would advocate for a single Palestinian state and could trigger disciplinary action for members who support Zionism.

The effort has created internal friction, with some Jewish members expressing fear that they can no longer remain in the party. Zack Polanski, leader of the Green Party in England and Wales, has declared himself anti-Zionist but supported amendments to tone down the motion's language.

Lubna Speitan, a leading member of Greens for Palestine and co-author of the motion, rejected these leadership amendments. Both Speitan and the group have links to the Anti-Zionist Movement, a militant group featuring former academic David Miller, who advocates for the dismantling of Zionist organizations in the UK. While a Green Party spokesperson stated the party does not support the views of the Anti-Zionist Movement, Greens for Palestine rejects the conflation of anti-Zionism with antisemitism.
