Kayem Foods Recalls 1.58 Million Pounds of Meat Products
Kayem Foods Inc. is recalling 1.58 million pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products due to warehouse temperature deviations that could allow bacterial growth.
Kayem Foods Inc. is recalling approximately 1,584,361 pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products produced between March 31 and October 7, 2026, at its facility in Chelsea, Massachusetts. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) classified the event as a Class I recall, indicating a high risk of serious adverse health consequences. The recall was triggered after a retail customer reported receiving warm products on October 1, leading to an investigation that revealed temperature deviations in a warehouse cooler.
These temperature failures could allow the growth of bacteria such as Listeria monocytogenes. The recall affects over 60 products, including hot dogs, bacon, deli meats, and oven-roasted turkey breasts sold under brands such as Kayem, Genoa, Al Fresco, Triple M, McKenzin Country Classics, Deutschmacher, Jordan's, Essem, and Winnisimmet. The affected items were distributed to retail and foodservice locations across the United States and exported to businesses in Hong Kong.
While no illnesses have been reported, the FSIS warned that the long shelf lives of these products mean they may still be in consumers' homes. President and CEO Matt Monkiewicz stated that the company has corrected the cooler issue and takes full responsibility for the failure. Consumers are urged to discard the products or return them to the place of purchase.
