U.S. Imposes Visa Restrictions on Migrant Caravan Organizers

The United States Department of State restricted visas for over 15 individuals accused of coordinating migrant caravans traveling toward the southern border.

The United States Department of State has initiated visa restrictions against more than 15 individuals accused of planning, promoting, or coordinating migrant caravans traveling through Central America and Mexico. State Department spokesman Thomas Pigott stated that these individuals recruited and directed large groups of migrants with the intent of illegal entry. Under the current policy, organizers and participants face increased scrutiny, including the potential refusal or revocation of visas.

These measures build upon a policy established in March 2025 that targets foreign government officials and private actors who facilitate illegal immigration. The Trump administration is currently coordinating with Mexican authorities to disrupt these groups, including a caravan of approximately 300 people that departed San Pedro Sula, Honduras, on September 20.

Simultaneously, the United States Department of Homeland Security declared that members of these groups would be apprehended, prosecuted, and removed if they attempt to enter the U.S. illegally. Officials emphasized that unauthorized border crossings violate the law and can lead to arrest, detention, deportation, and future bans on entry to the United States.
