Lauren Boebert Denies Staffer Sexual Misconduct and Hush-Money Claims

U.S. Representative Lauren Boebert has categorically denied allegations of sexual misconduct and financial impropriety following a sworn ethics complaint filed on September 17, 2026. The complaint, submitted by David B. Wheeler of the political action committee American Muckrakers, alleges that Boebert engaged in sexual relationships with three staffers: former district director Clarice Navarro Ratzlaff, former chief of staff Jeffrey Small, and current chief of staff Raven Finegan.

Wheeler further claims that Boebert arranged a $200,000 hush-money payment to Navarro Ratzlaff in March 2025 to prevent the aide from filing her own ethics complaint. The filing suggests a relationship between Boebert and Navarro Ratzlaff began in 2021 and was funded via campaign-paid hotel rooms. Boebert has rejected these claims, stating she is not a lesbian or bisexual and has never been sexually involved with staff. Navarro Ratzlaff has also dismissed the allegations as defamatory and ridiculous.

Boebert's office characterized the complaint as a politically motivated stunt, noting a history of litigation with Wheeler, including a 2022 restraining order and a settled 2023 defamation lawsuit. Boebert also argued that the House Ethics Committee would not accept the complaint due to its proximity to an election and a lack of lawmaker certification. While Wheeler maintains he stands by his sources, he has previously admitted to using sloppy research in past claims against the congresswoman. The House Ethics Committee has not announced an official investigation.
