PDP Defends Oladipupo Adebutu's 2027 Ogun Governorship Eligibility

The Peoples Democratic Party rejected claims that governorship candidate Oladipupo Adebutu is ineligible to run, calling the allegations a smear campaign by the All Progressives Congress.

The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has dismissed allegations that its 2027 governorship candidate, Oladipupo Adebutu, is ineligible to run for office. The party refuted claims made by the Ogun Democratic Accountability Forum that Adebutu's name was omitted from the official membership register, asserting that he is a financially active member and that the party complied with all Independent National Electoral Commission deadlines.

The PDP characterized the allegations as a smear campaign orchestrated by the All Progressives Congress to distract from its own vulnerabilities. Specifically, the PDP questioned the indigeneship status of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, noting his shift from representing Lagos State to Ogun State. The party further alleged that federal constituency projects intended for other states were diverted to Ogun to create a false impression of development.

Urging the Independent National Electoral Commission to ignore pressure from political proxies, the PDP maintained that political eligibility is governed by the Constitution and the Electoral Act rather than press statements from politically aligned groups.
