IDF Probes Soldier for Posting Photo of Bound Detainee

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched an inquiry after a soldier posted a photo on social media showing a Palestinian man from Gaza blindfolded, stripped to his underwear, and bound face-down to an iron rod. The image circulated with a Hebrew caption reading "Good morning." The IDF confirmed the photo's authenticity and stated the incident does not align with military values and regulations.
Human rights organizations, including Physicians for Human Rights Israel and the Public Committee Against Torture in Israel, cited the image as evidence of systemic torture in Israeli detention facilities. Representatives from these groups characterized the facilities as torture camps and stated that forced nudity and the public sharing of such images can constitute war crimes and forms of sexual violence.
The image also highlighted a lack of formal communication from Israeli authorities, as at least two mothers in Gaza separately claimed the man in the photo as their missing son. Despite these claims, the IDF declined to confirm the man's identity or disclose whether his family had been notified.
