H.D. Kumaraswamy Demands CBI Probe Into Karnataka Sting Operations
Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy is seeking a CBI investigation into alleged targeted sting operations and surveillance of political leaders in Karnataka.
Union Minister and JD(S) President H.D. Kumaraswamy has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into alleged targeted sting operations and surveillance of political leaders and their families in Karnataka. The demands follow an operation intended to damage the reputation of former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Speaking in Bengaluru on October 12, 2026, Kumaraswamy rejected Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar's assertion that "time will tell everything" regarding the episode. He questioned reports that the matter was discussed in a Cabinet meeting and urged the government to clarify if individuals from Uttar Pradesh, a Union Minister, or BJP leaders were involved. Kumaraswamy emphasized that the goal is to establish the truth and ensure action against those found guilty, regardless of his political opposition to Siddaramaiah.
On October 13, Kumaraswamy escalated his demands at the JD(S) state headquarters, announcing plans to submit a formal complaint to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He alleged that four retired police officers were stationed at the residence of Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to monitor the conversations of ministers and officials using sophisticated equipment, though he noted he is not claiming the Chief Minister personally ordered the surveillance. He also cited a complaint involving the alleged use of a minor in a sting operation and urged the state government to hand the case to the CBI to ensure an investigation free from political influence.
