Hasan Piker Sparks Outrage After Defending Hamas
Twitch streamer Hasan Piker faces condemnation from Jewish rights groups and Democratic strategist James Carville after stating he would vote for Hamas over Israel.
Twitch streamer Hasan Piker sparked widespread condemnation following a CNN interview in which he defended the right of Palestinians to resist militarily. Piker stated he would vote for Hamas over Israel, describing Hamas as a paramilitary organization composed of orphaned children and characterizing Israel as a fascist settler colonial apartheid state. Although he acknowledged that Hamas commits war crimes, he dismissed concerns regarding the group's domestic policies toward women and LGBTQ individuals.
The Anti-Defamation League and the American Jewish Committee responded by accusing Piker of normalizing extremism and supporting a designated terrorist organization. Both organizations signaled that such rhetoric poses a risk to the safety of the Jewish community and crosses a line of acceptable political debate.
Democratic strategist James Carville also reacted to the controversy, threatening to leave the Democratic Party if it continues to embrace Piker. The fallout follows a separate claim by Piker that Hamas is a thousand times better than Israel.
