U.S. Military Blockades Iran in Strait of Hormuz
The United States military implemented a naval blockade of Iran in the Strait of Hormuz, cutting billions in oil revenue and securing international shipping lanes.
The United States Armed Forces implemented a naval blockade of Iran in the Strait of Hormuz, significantly restricting Iranian maritime trade. The operation has deprived Iran of approximately $25 billion in crude-oil export revenue, a move intended to limit the Iranian government's ability to fund military reconstruction, international terrorism, and domestic repression.
To maintain the flow of global energy, U.S. forces secured international shipping lanes by clearing mines and degrading Iranian naval, drone, and missile capabilities. These efforts enabled the passage of roughly 400 merchant ships through the strait over a seven-day period.
As a result of these security measures, Gulf partners successfully exported over 100 million barrels of crude oil despite the ongoing blockade of Iranian shipments.
