Skydance Mandates Five-Day Office Return and Offers Buyouts
Skydance co-CEOs David Ellison and Ynon Kreiz mandated a five-day in-office work week and launched a voluntary buyout program to reduce operational costs.
Co-CEOs David Ellison and Ynon Kreiz announced a mandatory five-day-per-week in-office policy for all employees on Monday. The return-to-office mandate will be implemented through a phased approach across various company locations. To accommodate staff unwilling to comply with the new requirement, the company is offering a one-time Voluntary Buyout (VBO) Program with personalized terms for eligible employees.
This policy shift follows the $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery earlier this month. The mandate and buyout program are components of broader cost-saving initiatives. While some reports cite a goal of $6 billion in operational efficiencies, others mention a commitment to at least $2 billion in savings.
Executives stated that the majority of these savings will come from non-labor sources, such as technology and real estate, though layoffs are expected as part of the process. Board member Gerry Cardinale noted that staff reductions are not expected to be the primary source of the cost savings.
