North Carolina DOT Seeks Public Input for Transportation Plan

The North Carolina Department of Transportation is soliciting public feedback to update the state's active transportation plan for walking, biking, and rolling infrastructure.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking public input to update the state's active transportation plan, an initiative that began in the summer of 2026. Residents have until December 5 to submit stories and photos detailing their experiences with walking, biking, and rolling across the state.

This new plan will replace WalkBikeNC, which was adopted in 2013. The updated framework will guide future policies and projects aimed at improving sidewalks, crossings, bike routes, and shared-use paths. The agency intends to create safer and more connected transportation links to employment centers, schools, parks, and public transit.

The planning process is expected to last approximately one year.
