Procter & Gamble Beats Sales Estimates Amid Rising Costs

Procter & Gamble reported first-quarter net sales of $23.28 billion, though it raised its projected profit hit for fiscal 2027 to $1.4 billion due to commodity costs.

Procter & Gamble reported first-quarter net sales of $23.28 billion, surpassing Wall Street estimates of $22.80 billion. The company achieved a 4% increase in sales and a 2.4% rise in overall volumes, driven primarily by strong demand for home-care and beauty products. First-quarter core earnings reached $2 per share.

Despite the revenue beat, the company increased its projected profit hit for fiscal 2027 to $1.4 billion, up from an earlier estimate of $1 billion. This projected decline stems from rising commodity-related costs, including energy, raw materials, and transportation. A company spokesperson attributed the increase in freight costs to truck driver shortages and record U.S. retail diesel prices, which were influenced by the U.S. war in Iran.

To counter these financial pressures, the company is investing in product innovation, negotiating with suppliers, and optimizing transportation routes. This follows the company's August announcement that it would acquire supplements maker Bella Thorne to expand its presence in the health and wellness market.
