China Reports Growth in National Day Holiday Spending
The Government of China saw increased consumer spending and record railway travel during the first three days of the National Day holiday.
The Government of China reported steady growth in consumer spending during the first three days of the seven-day National Day holiday from October 1 to 3. Data from the Ministry of Commerce showed that revenue and foot traffic at 78 major shopping streets and commercial districts increased by 5.3 percent and 3.4 percent year on year, respectively.
A state-led consumer goods trade-in program generated 19.63 billion yuan in sales, which included the purchase of 46,000 vehicles, 1.51 million home appliances, and 1.71 million digital devices. To further stimulate the economy, local governments distributed 310 million yuan in consumer vouchers and organized more than 20,000 events.
Travel demand reached record levels, with railway passenger trips hitting a single-day high of 25.2 million on October 1. The government supported this surge by adding train services and waiving highway tolls for private cars. These efforts coincided with a national tourism promotion campaign launched by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
