Amit Shah Signals BJP-Akali Alliance for Punjab Elections
Union Home Minister Amit Shah predicted an NDA government in Punjab and inaugurated water infrastructure projects worth Rs 8,941 crore in New Delhi.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah signaled a forthcoming alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Shiromani Akali Dal, including splinter factions, ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections. Speaking at the launch of 43 water infrastructure and Yamuna river cleaning projects worth approximately Rs 8,941 crore in New Delhi, Shah asserted that the National Democratic Alliance is set to form the next government in Punjab. He claimed an NDA administration would end the state's drug trafficking menace and that the Aam Aadmi Party would suffer a major electoral setback.
Shah criticized the Indian National Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party, accusing them of employing a "politics of excuse" and making baseless claims regarding electronic voting machine tampering. He specifically targeted Rahul Gandhi, alleging that accusations of "vote theft" were used to protect infiltrators, and predicted the Congress party would remain out of power for 30 years due to its negative politics.
Addressing Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal, Shah warned that voters would "root out" the AAP government in Punjab, citing failures to address civic issues such as Delhi's landfill sites. He further alleged that previous Congress and AAP administrations in Delhi were responsible for allowing sewage to discharge into the Yamuna river, while maintaining that the BJP government has reduced such discharge.
