AI Giants Launch Enterprise Agents to Automate Office Workflows

Major technology firms released a series of agentic AI tools on April 22, 2026, shifting from passive assistants to autonomous agents capable of managing complex organizational workflows.

OpenAI introduced Workspace Agents for ChatGPT, powered by the Codex engine. These agents operate as persistent collaborators that execute multi-step tasks in the cloud even while users are offline. They integrate with Slack, Gmail, Google Drive, and HubSpot to automate processes like lead qualification and risk management. The feature is currently in research preview for business and education plans and is free until May 6, 2026, before transitioning to a credit-based pricing model. To ensure security, OpenAI included a Compliance API and human-approval requirements for sensitive tasks.

Simultaneously, Google launched Workspace Intelligence, a Gemini-driven AI layer across Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Drive. The system reduces app-switching by using an "Ask Gemini" hub in Chat to schedule meetings and generate documents, while integrating with third-party tools like Salesforce and Jira.

GoodData also debuted Agent Builder, a tool designed to move AI agents from experimentation to production.
