Anthropic Expands Claude Cowork Agent to Mobile and Web

Anthropic moved its Claude Cowork AI agent to cloud and mobile platforms to support business and administrative knowledge work.

Anthropic expanded its Claude Cowork AI agent to web and mobile platforms on July 7, 2026, transitioning the tool from a desktop-only application to a cloud-based service. This update allows Max subscribers to initiate long-running, autonomous tasks on one device and receive status updates or completed outputs on another, including Android and iOS apps, even if the original machine is powered off.

The strategic shift follows an analysis of 1.2 million sessions across 600,000 organizations, which revealed that non-coding tasks dominate usage. Business process operations accounted for 33.4% of use and content creation for 16.4%, while software development represented only 8.7%. Anthropic intends to position Cowork as an administrative tool for knowledge workers in fields such as finance, HR, and marketing.

To streamline the user experience, the company plans to unify Claude chat and Cowork into a single interface with shared file access. While the agent handles multistep workflows, Anthropic maintained that user review and approval are required before any task is finalized. Support for Pro, Team, and Enterprise plans is expected in the coming weeks, and the company is doubling Cowork usage limits through August 5 to mark the launch.
