Israel Kills Hamas Commanders in Gaza Airstrikes

The Israel Defense Forces killed several Hamas operatives in Gaza, including commanders in Nuseirat, amid reports of a Shin Bet tactic to warn targets before strikes.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) conducted a series of targeted airstrikes across the Gaza Strip, killing several Hamas operatives. In Nuseirat, the military eliminated squad commander Ihab Jamil Abu Taqiya and platoon commander Ibrahim Gihad Muhammad Abu Oshaiba. The IDF identified Abu Taqiya as being involved in holding Israeli hostages and claimed both men were working to restore Hamas operational capabilities in systematic violation of a ceasefire.

Additional strikes in Rafah and Khan Younis resulted in the deaths of Hamas operatives Hammam Jaber al-Sayed Abu Labda, Mahmoud Abu Naama, Mohammed Hamad Shreiki Sultan, and Mohammed Aliyan Bayouk. The IDF stated these individuals were eliminated from the air to remove the threats they posed.

Reports from Asharq Al-Awsat indicate that the Shin Bet security agency has employed a counterterrorism tactic of telephoning operatives before strikes, offering them the chance to separate from their families to reduce civilian casualties. In the case of Mohammed Aliyan Bayouk, he reportedly moved to a roof to spare his family before the drone strike, though his aunt was seriously wounded during the incident. While the IDF confirmed the killings, it did not publicly confirm the use of telephone warnings.

These operations occurred despite a U.S.-brokered ceasefire that took effect in October 2025. While large-scale offensives ended, targeted strikes have continued as a broader peace plan involving Hamas disarmament and Israeli withdrawals remains stalled.
