PIMCO Analyst Predicts Further Federal Reserve Rate Hikes
Andrew Balls of PIMCO expects the Federal Reserve to implement one to two more interest rate hikes to maintain its 2% inflation target.
Investment professional Andrew Balls expects the Federal Reserve to implement one to two additional interest rate hikes to maintain its 2% inflation target. While markets currently price in a low probability of a rate hike in October, Balls views the likelihood as closer to fifty-fifty.
Balls identifies strong value and potential for capital gains in the long end of the yield curve, specifically ten-year and thirty-year yields. He attributes a recent rally in long-term bonds to investor flows shifting from equities into fixed income, driven by growing uncertainty and market pressure within the AI sector.
Under the leadership of Chair Kevin Walsh, the Federal Reserve System is expected to preserve its broad policy framework. Balls notes that while the front end of the yield curve is well-priced for further tightening, the long end offers significant opportunity for investors.
