SpaceX Leads Wave of Tech IPOs Amid Index Rule Changes
SpaceX raised $75 billion in the largest IPO in Wall Street history as OpenAI and Anthropic also filed for public listings.
The U.S. stock market experienced a surge in high-profile technology listings in June 2026, headlined by Space Exploration Technologies Corp., which raised $75 billion in the largest initial public offering in Wall Street history on June 12.
This trend continued as AI developers Anthropic and OpenAI confidentially filed for IPOs with the Securities and Exchange Commission on June 1 and June 8, respectively. The influx of megacap listings followed structural changes by Nasdaq Global Indexes and U.S. Russell Indexes. Effective May 1 and May 27, these providers implemented fast-entry rules that significantly shortened the time required for new companies to be included in the Nasdaq-100, Russell 1000, and Russell 3000.
Financial analysts have expressed concern regarding the stability of the current market rally. A Truist Financial analysis indicated that high-profile tech IPOs suffer an average year-one drawdown of 55%. Critics warn that the new index rules may destabilize the market by forcing index-driven exposure to volatile and overvalued AI assets.
