US and South African Agencies Shift November Benefit Payments
The US Social Security Administration and South African Social Security Agency are both issuing early November benefit payments due to holidays and elections.
The Social Security Administration in the United States will issue November Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments on October 30, 2026. This early distribution is necessary because November 1 falls on a Sunday, and agency rules require payments to be made on the preceding business day. The agency noted that this is an early payment rather than an additional benefit, advising recipients to budget for the gap before the December 1 payment. Standard retirement, disability, and survivor benefits will follow their usual schedule on November 10, 18, and 25.
Additionally, the agency announced a 3.6% cost-of-living adjustment for 2027 affecting approximately 76 million Americans. While Social Security beneficiaries will see the increase in January 2027, SSI recipients will receive their first adjusted payment on December 31, 2026, due to the New Year's Day holiday.
Simultaneously, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) revised its November 2026 grant schedule to accommodate Local Government Elections on November 4. Approved by the National Treasury, the one-off arrangement schedules older persons' grants for October 30, disability grants for November 2, and child grants for November 3. Payments for grants under review are set for November 5. SASSA stated that the standard schedule will resume from December 2026 through March 2027.
