WestJet Flight Attendants Accept 18 Percent Wage Increase

WestJet flight attendants voted on Monday to accept a tentative labor agreement that increases wages by more than 18 percent over three years. The deal concludes a period of labor unrest that included a strike earlier in August, which caused hundreds of flight cancellations.

A central element of the agreement is the introduction of a duty pay premium. This change ensures flight attendants receive compensation for all hours worked, including boarding and ground time, rather than being paid only for time spent in the air. This pay structure aligns the airline with other major North American carriers, including Air Canada, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines.

The agreement was reached on August 3 between the Canadian Union of Public Employees and the airline, which is majority-owned by Onex Corporation.
