Mike Johnson Weighs Future Amid House Majority Battle
House Speaker Mike Johnson expressed uncertainty about his political future if Republicans lose the House majority in the upcoming midterm elections.
House Speaker Mike Johnson stated he is uncertain about his future in politics if Republicans lose control of the House in the upcoming midterm elections. In an interview with Fox News, Johnson suggested he might return to his hometown of Shreveport, Louisiana, to start a lawn business if the GOP loses its majority.
Despite these reflections, Johnson maintained that he expects to remain Speaker in the next Congress and remains focused on winning the House. He indicated that he is not currently discussing scenarios in which the GOP fails to retain the majority.
As the elections approach, some Republicans are privately considering the possibility of a minority leader race. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan, and House Whip Tom Emmer have emerged as potential candidates for the role should the party lose its majority.
