American Electric Power to Buy 1.6GW from Mainspring Energy

American Electric Power Co. signed an agreement to purchase up to 1.6 gigawatts of small generators from Mainspring Energy Inc. to meet the rising energy demands driven by the artificial intelligence boom. The deal is expected to exceed $4 billion in value over the next eight years.

The rollout begins with the installation of 190 megawatts in 2027. American Electric Power Co. maintains an option to order an additional 200 megawatts annually through 2034, with pricing to be determined for each subsequent tranche.
