Pakistan and Kuwait Sign Protocol Agreement 2026 for Defense

The Government of Pakistan and the Government of Kuwait signed the Protocol Agreement 2026 in Rawalpindi on August 27, 2026. The accord expands a bilateral military framework established under a 2023 agreement, focusing on military training, capacity building, and border management, specifically regarding Kuwait's border with Iraq.

The agreement institutionalizes a partnership that includes intelligence sharing, logistics, and joint exercises, all overseen by an annual joint military committee. The pact was finalized during meetings between Kuwaiti Defence Minister Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah and Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif at the Ministry of Defence, as well as a session with Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, at General Headquarters.

During the visit, the Kuwaiti delegation praised the professionalism and operational capabilities of the Pakistan Armed Forces. The Pakistan Ministry of Defence stated the agreement reflects deep trust and shared strategic interests. This partnership follows a broader trend of Gulf states diversifying security ties following regional escalations, including a U.S.-Iran war that resulted in strikes on Kuwaiti soil and an Israeli strike in Qatar. While Pakistan provides strategic weight as a nuclear-armed state, potential economic benefits for Islamabad may include increased labor visas and subsidized energy.
