Bangladesh Ministry Urges Media Ban on Sheikh Hasina Statements

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting urged media outlets to refrain from publishing or broadcasting statements and press releases from ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The government cited the need to respect national security, the spirit of the July Uprising, and the authority of the court. Officials noted that the International Crimes Tribunal had previously issued orders prohibiting such broadcasts, expressing regret that some outlets continued to air statements from the convicted accused.

International Crimes Tribunal Chief Prosecutor Aminul Islam provided a clarification regarding the scope of these restrictions. He stated that there is no blanket ban on airing remarks by Hasina, provided the content does not constitute hate speech. According to Islam, the restriction specifically applies to hateful statements.
