China Pledges to Advance Rural Revitalization and Poverty Relief

Vice Premier Liu Guozhong and Chinese officials pledged to consolidate poverty alleviation gains and advance rural revitalization during a National People's Congress meeting.

Liu Guozhong, Vice Premier of China, pledged to consolidate poverty alleviation achievements and advance rural revitalization during a meeting of the National People's Congress Standing Committee on Wednesday. He emphasized that regular support must be integrated into the rural revitalization strategy and called for targeted monitoring to prevent a large-scale return to poverty.

Lawmakers deliberated a report on rural revitalization and conducted a joint inquiry into several critical issues. These included sustaining poverty-relief industries, improving basic pension insurance for urban and rural residents, and addressing the challenges of an aging rural population. Liu Guozhong further called for the development of rural governance, infrastructure, and industries to ensure long-term stability.

Following the deliberations, Wu Weihua, vice chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, directed the State Council and relevant departments to address the suggestions made by lawmakers. The State Council is required to submit a follow-up report to the committee detailing the actions taken to implement these rural revitalization goals.
