RobCo Reaches $1 Billion Valuation Following $40 Million Share Sale

Robotics startup RobCo achieved unicorn status after a $40 million share sale to expand its autonomous industrial robot operations in the United States.

German robotics startup RobCo has reached a valuation exceeding $1 billion following a $40 million share sale involving new and existing investors. This valuation doubles the company's $500 million valuation from January. The firm specializes in autonomous industrial robots, specifically its flagship self-learning, two-armed robot Alfie, which is designed to automate repetitive manual manufacturing tasks and adapt to new duties in real time.

RobCo has sold more than 1,000 robots to industrial clients, including BMW. To address global labor shortages, the company is expanding operations in Austin and San Francisco. CEO Roman Hölzl moved to San Francisco to lead this U.S. expansion. The funding round included participation from Cherry Ventures, European Tech Collective, Sequoia, Lightspeed, Lingotto, and Leitmotif.

This growth coincides with a broader surge in physical AI investment and a German government initiative called the AI Robotics Booster. The program pledged approximately $112 million to scale AI-based robotics within Europe. Sequoia partner Luciana Lixandru led the firm's investment, noting that a labor shortage remains the biggest issue in manufacturing because younger generations often avoid repetitive factory floor work.
