JERA and Dell Partner for National AI Infrastructure in Japan
JERA partners with Dell Technologies and RHAELM to build a $15 billion hyperscale AI data center in Chiba as part of a national infrastructure push.
JERA, Japan's largest power generator, has partnered with Dell Technologies and UK-based RHAELM to accelerate the development of national-scale AI infrastructure in Japan. The companies signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a standardized, scalable framework for AI deployment across the country.
The initiative centers on a hyperscale data center in Chiba, where JERA will provide land adjacent to its power station and supply 400 MW of power under a 15- to 25-year agreement. RHAELM will manage the development, construction, operation, and financing of the facility, supported by Apollo Global Management as a strategic investment and financial partner. Dell Technologies will supply the standardized, rack-scale AI infrastructure.
The Chiba facility is expected to begin phased operations in 2028 and reach full capacity by 2029. While one source lists the cost of the Chiba project at $15 billion, another report indicates a broader AI data center push totaling $140 billion.
