Busy Baby CEO Struggles to Recover $50,000 in Tariffs

Beth Benike, CEO of Busy Baby, reports technical glitches in the U.S. Customs portal preventing her from claiming $50,000 in tariff refunds.

Beth Benike, CEO of the baby products manufacturer Busy Baby, is attempting to secure a refund of approximately $50,000 in tariffs paid on imports from China. Despite government timelines promising refunds within 60 to 90 days plus interest, Benike reports that technical failures in the U.S. Customs ACE data portal have blocked her claims.

Benike stated that her importer account remains linked to a previous broker, creating a glitch that prevents her from submitting the required paperwork. She described the portal as cumbersome and reported spending four hours on hold without reaching a human representative.

The financial impact on Busy Baby has extended beyond the missing refund. Benike estimates the tariffs caused $500,000 in lost revenue, forced the company to accumulate debt, and led to employee layoffs.
