Asian Tech Stocks Surge After Record Wall Street Rally
Asian technology shares jumped Wednesday following a record Wall Street rally driven by AI optimism and hopes for a diplomatic deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Asian technology stocks surged on Wednesday after a record-breaking rally on Wall Street. The momentum was driven by strong corporate earnings, declining oil prices, and a bullish outlook for artificial intelligence infrastructure.
SoftBank Group saw shares jump more than 10%, fueled by optimism regarding the AI-related data center royalties and CPU development plans of its subsidiary, Arm. Other significant gains occurred across the region, including Japanese firms Tokyo Electron, Advantest, and Kioxia, as well as South Korean companies SK Hynix, Samsung Electronics, and Seoul Semiconductor. In the U.S. market preceding this surge, AI software company Palantir saw shares rally over 29%.
Market optimism is further linked to geopolitical developments. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent indicated that Washington and Tehran could reach a diplomatic agreement within days to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a move expected to ease global energy supply concerns and support broader economic stability.
