Delhi Metro Hits Record 8.2 Million Daily Riders

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation recorded its highest-ever single-day ridership on September 17, 2026, with 8,244,903 passenger boardings. This surge occurred as commuters shifted to rail services during an ongoing strike by Delhi Transport Corporation bus drivers, who began protesting on Tuesday for higher daily wages, medical benefits, and overtime pay.

To accommodate the influx of passengers, the metro operator deployed 20 additional train trips across its network. This included eight extra trains operated between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. on September 16 and 17. The total ridership figure incorporates services from the Airport Express line and Rapid Metro Gurgaon.

The Yellow line saw the highest demand with over 20 lakh boardings, followed by the Blue line.
