Queensland Minister Amanda Camm Resigns Over Harassment and Health

Minister Amanda Camm resigned from the Queensland cabinet citing a year of harassment, bullying, and recovery from a surgical procedure.

Queensland Minister Amanda Camm resigned from the cabinet on Friday, citing health and safety concerns. Camm stated the decision was hers alone, explaining that she had endured a year of harassment, threats, bullying, and vilification that went beyond standard public scrutiny. She noted that "public scrutiny and accountability are central to democracy and to our institutions," but argued that personal vilification is not.

Camm also cited an ongoing recovery from a surgical procedure, which left her unable to manage the ministerial workload under such stress. She remarked that it would be "unfair to the government" for her to take further leave.

Her tenure was marked by intense pressure regarding budget cuts to domestic and family violence prevention and failures within the state's child safety system, including reports of children in state care sleeping on government office floors. Premier David Crisafulli expressed his support for Camm and clarified that she was not removed due to her performance. The government plans to appoint a single replacement instead of conducting a full cabinet reshuffle.
