Capital One Beats Q3 Estimates Amid Discover Integration
Capital One Financial reported third-quarter revenue of $16.34 billion, exceeding analyst expectations while integrating Discover Financial Services.
Capital One Financial reported third-quarter results for the period ending September 30 that exceeded analyst expectations. Revenue rose 6.4% year-over-year to $16.34 billion, and adjusted earnings per share increased 12% to $6.69. This performance was driven by stronger net interest income and a $225 million allowance release for credit losses.
CEO Richard Fairbank stated the company has realized approximately $1.8 billion of annualized combined synergies from its $35 billion acquisition of Discover Financial Services, with a target of $2.7 billion by 2027. Non-interest expenses reached $8.86 billion, higher than estimated, due to integration costs for Discover and Brex, though marketing expenses remained below forecasts.
Fairbank warned that a proposed settlement regarding Visa and Mastercard swipe fees could result in lost interchange revenue. He noted that such a loss would roughly offset the remaining synergies expected from the Discover deal.
