SpaceX Expands Starlink Service to Direct-to-Cell Connectivity
SpaceX is expanding its Starlink satellite-internet service through partnerships with network operators to enable direct-to-cell connectivity for mobile phones.
SpaceX is expanding its Starlink satellite-internet service, which has grown to over 12 million individual subscribers since its 2021 launch. The service currently provides connectivity to shipping firms, airlines, and serves as a critical communication tool in the war in Ukraine.
To increase global reach, the company partnered with network operators, including T-Mobile in the United States. This collaboration enables satellites to connect directly to mobile phones in regions that lack land-based phone masts.
Elon Musk is driving this expansion based on the belief that the rise of robotics will significantly increase the global demand for connectivity.
