Rocket Lab USA Inc. Wins $397 Million Space Force Contract
Rocket Lab USA Inc. will develop and launch Flatellite sensors for the U.S. Space Force to track airborne threats in contested environments.
The United States Space Force awarded Rocket Lab USA Inc. a $397 million contract to develop, launch, and operate multiple Flatellites as part of the Space-Based Airborne Moving Target Indicator (SB-AMTI) program. These next-generation satellites will utilize space-based sensors and high-bandwidth communication links to detect and track airborne threats in real time.
Rocket Lab USA Inc. will deploy the satellites using its upcoming Neutron rocket. The SB-AMTI initiative seeks to replace traditional terrestrial and airborne sensors with a resilient space-based architecture. This shift is intended to provide the U.S. military with persistent battlespace awareness in contested environments where traditional aircraft face significant risks from anti-access/area-denial systems.
Rocket Lab USA Inc. CEO Peter Beck stated that the company is "honored to play a key role" in the program and that its vertically integrated capabilities "uniquely position us to deliver innovative solutions" for the Space Force.
