Phil Scott Wins Record Sixth Term as Vermont Governor

Republican Governor Phil Scott won a historic sixth term in Vermont, defeating Democratic-Progressive challenger Amanda Janoo by a 7-point margin.

Republican Governor Phil Scott won a historic sixth term as Vermont's chief executive on Tuesday, defeating Democratic-Progressive challenger Amanda Janoo. Scott secured the victory with 52 percent of the vote compared to Janoo's 45 percent. If he completes this term, Scott will become the longest-serving governor in the history of the state.

Scott campaigned on a platform of growing the economy, spending taxpayer dollars responsibly, and lowering education costs through school district consolidation. While he secured his own reelection, Republicans suffered significant losses in the Statehouse, with Democrats making gains that could restore their supermajority in one or both chambers.

Janoo ran a grassroots campaign funded by individual donors and refused corporate contributions. Following her defeat, she congratulated Scott on his victory and noted that her campaign proved another way of doing politics is possible. Other candidates in the race included independent Brian Judd, Peace and Justice candidate June Goodband, and Freedom and Unity candidate Dean Roy.

In a separate election on the same day, Democratic Representative Bobby Scott won reelection to Virginia's 3rd Congressional District. He secured his 18th consecutive term in the U.S. House of Representatives with 73 percent of the vote, defeating Republican challenger Edwin Rivera Jr.
