Anthropic Launches Claude Science AI Workbench for Researchers

Anthropic launched Claude Science on June 30, 2026, as an AI-powered workbench and desktop application designed to streamline scientific research, computational biology, and drug development. Available in public beta for macOS, Linux, and remote machines, the platform is accessible to Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise users. It integrates over 60 scientific databases, including PubMed, Jupyter, and R, allowing researchers to analyze literature, render 3D protein structures, and manage complex workflows.

Rather than introducing a new model, Claude Science utilizes existing Claude models and incorporates NVIDIA's BioNeMo Agent Toolkit to connect with life sciences libraries. Anthropic is also employing the tool for an internal drug discovery program targeting rare and neglected diseases. This release follows a May 2026 collaboration with Bristol Myers Squibb to deploy Claude to more than 30,000 employees.

The launch is part of a strategy to diversify revenue streams as Anthropic prepares for an initial public offering, having filed confidential paperwork with the Securities and Exchange Commission on June 1. The move places the company in direct competition with OpenAI, which recently debuted its GTP-Rosalind model for scientific research.
