Voters Trust Democrats More on Health Care Costs

A KFF poll shows voters trust Democrats over Republicans on health care costs as candidates clash over Medicare for All in the midterm elections.

A new poll from KFF (Kaiser Family Foundation) reveals that U.S. voters trust Democrats over Republicans on health care costs by a nearly two-to-one margin. The survey found that 60% of voters are worried about affording health care, placing it alongside gas prices as a top affordability concern. The Democratic advantage on this issue grew from 11 percentage points in April to 20 points in September.

Democratic candidates, including Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan, are leveraging this trend by campaigning on Medicare for All. Support for the single-payer concept has reached 66%, the highest level since 2016. Democrats are also attacking Republicans over the One Big Beautiful Bill, which reduced spending on Medicaid and other entitlement programs to fund tax cuts.

Republican candidates and lawmakers have countered by focusing on government fraud, waste, and abuse. Senate candidate Mike Rogers criticized the Medicare for All proposal, citing an estimated cost exceeding $4 trillion. State lawmaker Jamie Thompson warned that socialized medicine would lead to provider overwhelm and treatment delays for patients.
