David Ellison appointed Mattel CEO Ynon Kreiz as co-CEO of the newly merged Paramount-Warner Bros Discovery. Under this leadership structure, Kreiz will manage day-to-day operations and operational efforts, while Ellison oversees overall strategy and creative development.
The appointment focuses on aggressive intellectual property monetization and cost-efficiency. The combined entity aims to realize $6 billion in promised cost-savings while managing approximately $80 billion in debt. Kreiz is expected to apply his experience transforming toy brands into media franchises, similar to the 2023 Barbie film, to better monetize the company's library across various platforms.
Kreiz brings a history of restructuring from his tenure at Mattel and Endemol. While he implemented $1.5 billion in savings at Mattel, analysts have noted mixed results regarding long-term revenue growth and stock performance at his previous firms.
