North Korea and Vietnam Vow to Deepen Defense Ties

The Government of North Korea and the Government of Vietnam announced plans to deepen defense cooperation during high-level talks in Hanoi this week. A North Korean defense delegation, led by Ryo Chol Ung, met with Vietnamese officials to strengthen bilateral collaboration in political work, education, training, and the exchange of delegations.

Both nations committed to implementing a defense cooperation letter of intent signed in 2025, building upon a Cold War-era alliance between the two communist governments. The Ministry of National Defence of Vietnam described defense cooperation as a key area receiving active promotion from the leadership of both countries.

As part of the diplomatic engagement, Vietnam revealed plans to upgrade a cemetery and construct a dedicated memorial for North Korean servicemen who died during the Vietnam War.
