Sri Lankan JVP Delegation Visits India to Strengthen Ties

A five-member delegation from Sri Lanka's ruling Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), led by General Secretary Tilvin Silva, is visiting India from September 27 to October 1. Invited by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the group is meeting with senior party leaders and government representatives, visiting the Parliament of India, and interacting with BJP departments in New Delhi to exchange organizational experiences and deepen political ties.

This diplomatic engagement follows a visit to Colombo from September 8 to 10 by Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. During that trip, Singh reaffirmed India's commitment to Sri Lanka as a "first responder" and a "civilisational twin," describing the bilateral relationship as one of "hearts and souls."

Singh highlighted the success of Operation Sagar Bandhu following Cyclone Ditwah as evidence of this partnership. He emphasized that Sri Lanka remains central to India's Neighbourhood First policy and the MAHASAGAR vision, asserting that real friends stand by each other through thick and thin.
