RSF Drone Strikes Hit Five Sudanese Power Stations

The Rapid Support Forces launched coordinated drone strikes against five power stations in eastern Sudan, causing mass outages across three army-controlled states.

The Rapid Support Forces launched coordinated drone strikes against five power stations in eastern Sudan, triggering mass power outages across Al-Jazira, Gedaref, and White Nile states. The attacks targeted two stations in Al-Jazira and Gedaref, and one in White Nile, all of which are territories controlled by the Sudanese army.

These strikes disrupt critical health services and irrigation for farmers in a region already suffering from the world's largest hunger crisis. The conflict between the army and the paramilitary group, which began in April 2023, has increasingly relied on sophisticated drone warfare. United Nations data indicates that drone strikes killed over 300 people in the first three weeks of October alone.

The ongoing war has resulted in an estimated 200,000 deaths and the closure of most of the country's hospitals. The United Nations warned that attacks on power stations threaten essential health and services for millions of people.
