Aipac-Linked Super Pacs Spend Millions Against Aisha Wahab

Aisha Wahab, a progressive State Senator endorsed by the California Democratic party, currently leads former Dublin mayor Melissa Hernandez by over 20 points in a congressional special election for the East Bay district. The seat was previously held by Eric Swalwell.

Super Pacs linked to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee have spent millions of dollars to prevent Wahab from winning. Financial disclosures show the United Democracy Project and Bold America Pac spent millions on advertisements attacking Wahab and supporting Hernandez. Track Aipac reports the lobby has spent more than $4.4 million in support of Hernandez, including $1.2 million from the United Democracy Project and $2.1 million from Bold America Pac.

Wahab has criticized the influx of dark money in the race, urging voters to focus on her record. The candidates face a runoff election later this month, followed by a general election in November.
