Apple HomeView Smart Display May Include Security Camera Features
Apple is preparing to launch the HomeView smart display on November 13, with leaked software suggesting the device can function as a HomeKit security camera.
Leaked code in HomeView Software 27.2 indicates that Apple may integrate home security camera functionality into its upcoming HomeView smart display. Discovered by researcher pdfu, the software strings suggest the device's built-in 12-megapixel FaceTime camera can support motion detection, live streaming, and video recording via HomeKit Secure Video.
The system reportedly offers four operational modes: Off, Detect Activity, Stream, and Stream & Allow Recording. These modes can be scheduled based on whether household members are home, away, or asleep, providing 1080p video at 30 frames per second with microphone input. To address privacy, the device would include a green onscreen indicator light, audible alerts during recording, and notifications for any settings changes.
Apple has not officially announced these security capabilities, leaving it unclear if the features will be available at launch or added via a later update. The HomeView is scheduled to launch on November 13 in tabletop and wall-mounted versions. Both models will feature a 7-inch display with FaceTime and Siri AI and are priced at $299 in the United States.
