Environmental activists from Futureproof Clare attempted to occupy the site of a proposed 1.6 billion euro data center development on the outskirts of Ennis, Ireland. Over a weekend, approximately a dozen protesters established a presence at the location using plastic sheeting and wooden stakes.
Officers from An Garda Síochána responded to the scene to engage with the activists. Protesters described the police as both "servants of the bourgeois state" and "very understanding, very pleasant" during the interaction.
Futureproof Clare stated that the effort to stop the development has "really come alive."
