Cryptocurrencies Decline Ahead of Federal Reserve Rate Decision
Bitcoin and Ethereum prices dropped on July 29 as investors awaited a U.S. Federal Reserve interest rate decision and upcoming inflation data.
Bitcoin and Ethereum prices declined on July 29 as traders braced for the Federal Reserve System to announce its latest interest rate decision. Bitcoin dropped below $65,650, and Ethereum failed to maintain a level of $1,920, reflecting market anxiety over monetary policy. Market participants estimated a 66.3% probability that rates would remain unchanged at 3.75%, while 33.7% anticipated a 25-basis-point increase.
Investors are also awaiting the release of June Personal Consumption Expenditures Price Index data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis on July 30. These inflation metrics, combined with geopolitical instability, are contributing to the volatility of risk assets.
Concerns persist over the security situation between the United States and Iran. While both nations have entered a temporary suspension of attacks, the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz and ongoing Houthi strikes on Saudi Arabian oil infrastructure present risks to oil prices. Such disruptions could fuel inflation and further suppress cryptocurrency valuations.
