Anambra First Lady Denies Peter Obi Godparent Claims

The First Lady of Anambra State, Nonye Soludo, denied claims made by former governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi that he and his wife, Margaret Obi, are godparents to the children of Governor Chukwuma Soludo. The dispute began after a video circulated of Obi speaking at the Nigerian Guild of Editors conference in Enugu, where he used the claim to illustrate that he and the governor maintain a close personal relationship despite their political differences.

In a statement issued through media assistant Daniel Ezeigwe, Nonye Soludo clarified that while the families remain cordial, Peter Obi is not a godfather to any of the governor's children. The statement specified that Margaret Obi is the baptismal godmother to one of the Soludo daughters, and Nonye Soludo is the confirmation godmother to Obi's daughter. The Anambra State Government suggested that Obi may have simply misspoke.

The denial prompted a reaction from Theo Abu Agada, Director of New Media and Strategic Communications for the Nigeria Democratic Congress. Agada posted on X that the Soludo family hates Obi and does not mean well for him, urging the candidate to recognize this reality.
