EE Launches UK's First Commercial 5G Network Slicing Service

EE introduced Fast Lane, a 5G network slicing service that provides dedicated connectivity for consumers and small businesses during periods of high network congestion.

EE launched Fast Lane, the first commercial 5G network slicing service in the United Kingdom available to consumers and small businesses. The service leverages the company's 5G Standalone (5G+) network to automatically move eligible users to a dedicated virtual network slice when general traffic is congested, such as at festivals, stadiums, or busy city centers.

This capability allows users to maintain high-performance connectivity for mobile business payments, video calls, and livestreaming. Access to Fast Lane is bundled with the new Full Works Plus subscription, which costs £5 more per month than the standard Full Works plan and requires a compatible 5G+ handset.

Claire Gillies, CEO of BT’s Consumer Division, stated that the service helps keep customers connected even when thousands of others are attempting to connect simultaneously. The rollout is part of a larger £40 billion investment program by BT Group to expand 5G+ coverage. Currently reaching 78% of the UK population, or approximately 54 million people, the network is targeted to reach 99% coverage by March 2030.
